Call for book manuscripts: How Things Worked: Institutional Dimensions of the American Past

The Johns Hopkins University Press is seeking authors for a new book series, How Things Worked: Institutional Dimensions of the American Past. Titles will analyze the history of major institutions, describe how they changed over time, and explain why they mattered. Institutions are defined broadly to embrace such phenomena as banking, courts, the military, farms, factories, labor unions, the press, and the religious denominations. Each book will be accessible, brief (in the 75,000 word range), and suitable for undergraduate course adoptions. Please send proposals or manuscripts to the consulting editors, Professors Robin Einhorn and Richard R. John, c/o The Johns Hopkins University Press, 2715 North Charles Street, Baltimore, MD 21218.
